Govt releases 29 lifers who served 20 years
With this latest release, a total of 107 prisoners serving life terms have been released so far in 2025

The government has ordered the release of 29 prisoners serving life sentences who have completed 20 years of their terms, including remission, under provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code.
According to a statement from the Prison Headquarters, the order was issued under Section 401(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, following Jail Rule 569, also known as the "Twenty Years Rule."
The statement, signed by Assistant Inspector General Forhad, noted that the government exercised its powers to remit the remaining portions of the sentences for the 29 individuals.
With this latest release, a total of 107 prisoners serving life terms have been released so far in 2025.
