20 AL leaders, activists held over flash procession in Cumilla

Police have arrested 20 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations following a flash procession on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla's Kotbari Batabaria area under Sadar Dakshin upazila yesterday (20 September).
Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Selim said the arrested were produced before a court today (21 September), which later sent them to jail.
Earlier, Sub-Inspector Jasim Uddin of the same police station filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against 30 named and 50 unnamed individuals over the procession.
According to police, the procession was brought out under the banner of the South District Awami League. A video of the procession later went viral on social media, showing masked youths and middle-aged men chanting slogans while carrying banners.
Following the incident, police conducted overnight raids across different areas and made the arrests, OC Selim said.
Those arrested include Cumilla Sadar upazila Swechhasebak League General Secretary Mahbub Alam Pallab, Sharif Ahmed Majumdar Sohag of Uttar Rampur, Hanif Chowdhury of Lalbagh, Delwar Hossain of Sawratli, Mohibullah Apon of Beltali, Jewel of Changini, Delwar of Dishabandh, Jasim Uddin of Gabtoli, Farid of Maheshpur, Sajib of Baishakhla, Mohammad Ali of Goalmothon, Jane Alam Lotus of Dhanpur, Nurul Islam Rana of Alekhachar, Mobarak of Khiltali, Abdul Aziz Sajib of Balutupa, Nazmul Haque, Ilias of Barura, Saddam Hossain Majumdar of Lalmai, Noman of Chengahata, and Abdul Kader of Burichang.
