The cabinet committee on economic affairs approved the project for immediate implementation

The cabinet committee on economic affairs in a meeting today approved a proposal for implementing the chemical warehouse project in Tongi under the direct procurement method. 

"The cabinet committee has allocated Tk91.74 crore for setting up a new chemical warehouse initiative under the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation," said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

Kamal was speaking to the reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which was chaired by him.

"The Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation wants to implement the Tongi chemical warehouse project under the direct procurement method to avoid a tender process. It believes that any tender process may delay the project, the minister said.

He added that the cabinet committee has approved the proposal for immediate implementation.

After the implementation of the chemical warehouse project, a total of 53 chemicals warehouse will be available to store liquid, solid, flammable, inflammable, explosive chemical items and liquefied gas.

The project will feature 3 buildings and other necessary equipment. The project is scheduled to conclude by December, 2020.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Purchase approved four projects in different sectors.
