Mitford murder: RAB arrests Nannu Kazi, one of the four seen in CCTV footage

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested another suspect in the murder case of Lal Chand alias Md Sohag, the scrap metal trader who was brutally killed within the Mitford Hospital compound in Old Dhaka on 9 July.
The arrestee, Nannu Kazi, identified as the seventh accused in the case, was held by RAB-11 early today, around 1:10am, near his maternal uncle's house in Balia village, under Kolagachia Union of Narayanganj's Bandar Police Station.
According to a RAB press note, Nannu was among four individuals seen in viral CCTV footage assaulting Sohag with bricks and cement blocks to ensure his death.
He has confessed to his involvement during preliminary interrogation, said Shamim Hasan Sarder, assistant director (Media) of RAB-10. Nannu is being transferred to RAB-10 custody and will later be handed over to the concerned police station.
With this latest arrest, a total of eight suspects have been detained in connection with the case.
Fresh remand for key accused Mahin
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court has granted police a fresh five-day remand for Mahmudul Hasan Mahin, one of the prime accused in the case.
The order was passed by Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman after Mahin was presented before the court following completion of his initial five-day remand. Police had sought a 10-day remand for further interrogation.
Mahin was initially remanded on 10 July. Earlier, two other accused – brothers Sajib and Rajib Bepari – were also placed on five-day remand each on Monday.
On 13 July, two more accused, Alamgir and Monir, were remanded for four days, while another suspect, Titon Gazi, was placed on a five-day remand on 12 July.
According to the case filed by the victim's sister, Monjuara Begum, Sohag was hacked, beaten, and stoned to death near the gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital.
The murder, carried out in broad daylight, shocked the public and drew widespread outrage after video footage of the attack went viral.
