8,500kg of chemically ripened mangoes destroyed in Satkhira

Authorities in Satkhira have destroyed 8,500 kg of chemically ripened Gobindabhog mangoes that were being transported to Dhaka in violation of official guidelines.
The mangoes were seized from a truck on the Satkhira bypass road at 10am today (3 April) following a tip-off. Activists of Students Against Discrimination stopped the truck and informed the administration.
Arafat Hossain, convener of the Students Against Discrimination in Satkhira, said, "After receiving news that a truckload of chemically ripened mangoes was being sent to Dhaka, we stopped the truck and informed the administration."
Satkhira Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shoaib Ahmad confirmed the seizure and said, "The official date for marketing Gobindabhog mangoes has been set as 5 April. Some dishonest traders tried to market them earlier using chemicals.
"With the help of student activists, the truck was seized and the mangoes were destroyed."
