Gas cylinder explosion at Gazipur workshop leaves 4 burned
Four people sustained burn injuries after a fire triggered by a gas cylinder in the Rakhaliachala area of Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur around 9:30pm last night (19 November). Two received treatment at a local hospital, while the two critically injured were sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The injured are tea stall owner Ali Hossain, workshop owner Motaleb Hossain, and tea stall customers Shafiqul Islam and Shamim Ahmed. Among them, Shamim Ahmed and Ali Hossain were sent to DMCH. Ali Hossain's condition is reported to be critical.
Locals said while a hole was being drilled below a large gas cylinder in Motaleb's workshop in the Rakhaliachala area, gas suddenly leaked out rapidly. At that moment, the leaked gas came into contact with the flame of a stove at the adjacent tea stall, which triggered the fire.
Resident Shawon Ahmed said that, hearing the screams of the victims, locals rushed to the spot, rescued them, and took them to the Kaliakair Upazilla Health Complex. As the condition of two of them was critical, they were later transferred to DMCH.
Kaliakair Fire Service officer Iftekhar Hasan Rayhan, said they had not been informed about the incident. However, he added that they were trying to gather information regarding the matter.
