Fire damages important documents at Kushtia election office

Important documents were damaged in a fire that broke out at the storeroom of the Kushtia Sadar Upazila Election Office, set by miscreants this morning (20 December).
The incident occurred at some point between late night and 9am today. As it was a holiday, office officials and staff were not present at the time and were unaware of the incident initially. Locals noticed smoke billowing from the election office building.
Upon receiving the information, the office's night guard, with the assistance of local residents, managed to bring the fire under control. Preliminary information suggests that several important documents stored in the ground-floor storeroom were damaged in the blaze. However, concerned officials claimed that no major losses were reported.
Senior District Election Officer Mahbubur Rahman and Kushtia Sadar Upazila Election Officer Abu Daud said that, based on initial observations, the fire appears to have originated near a window at the back of the storeroom. They added that the exact cause of the fire is being investigated.
Following the incident, Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Iqbal Hossain and Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin visited the site.
Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kabir Hossain Matubbar said the fire incident is being investigated with importance and that further details will be shared after the investigation is completed.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Kushtia Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin said it was not yet possible to determine whether the fire was set deliberately by miscreants or occurred due to other reasons, adding that the cause would be confirmed after proper verification.
