Threats will not deter political ascent: Akhter Hossen
The NCP leader alleged that leaders and activists of the Shapla koli symbol have been threatened across the country, including in his own constituency.
Akhter Hossen, member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Shapla symbol candidate of the Jamaat-NCP-led 11-party alliance in Rangpur-4 (Kaunia–Pirgacha), has reported receiving death threats during his election campaign.
In response to the threat he released video message last night (7 February), where he said intimidation would not hinder their political progress.
"No amount of fear can stop our march forward. We are moving ahead with the support of the people, and we will not retreat in the face of threats," he said.
Akhter has also filed a general diary (GD) with Pirgacha Police Station regarding the incident.
According to the GD, the threat was made on 7 February 2026 at around 5:30pm, while Akhter Hossen was campaigning in Kishamat village of Saula Union under Pirgacha Police Station. An unidentified person allegedly called his mobile phone from an unknown number and issued death threats before disconnecting the call.
In the video Akhter said that electoral competition should be based on ideology and programmes, not intimidation. "People do not believe in the politics of threats and fear," he said.
The NCP leader alleged that leaders and activists of the Shapla koli (waterlily bud) symbol have been threatened across the country, including in his own constituency.
He said that yesterday afternoon, he received a call from an unknown number, during which the caller used abusive language and threatened to kill him and his family after the election.
"In such a situation, we expect the law enforcement agencies to exercise the highest level of vigilance to ensure a free and fair election," Akhter said.
He further stated that his political allies had faced imprisonment and repression since what he described as the "era of fascism," adding that threats and intimidation would not derail their electoral journey.
