Fuel monitoring: Govt to appoint 'tag officers' at all filling stations to prevent irregularities
The decision was taken today (27 March) at an online meeting chaired by Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam.
The government has decided to appoint a "tag officer" for every filling station across the country to strengthen the monitoring of fuel shipments from depots to the stations.
The decision was taken today (27 March) at an online meeting chaired by Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam.
A government official will be assigned to each filling station to monitor how much fuel is withdrawn from the depots and whether the allocated fuel reaches the designated stations, according to the press wing of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
The move comes amid concerns that some of the allotted fuel is being diverted elsewhere instead of being delivered to the designated petrol pumps. The initiative is aimed at strengthening field-level monitoring, preventing irregularities, and ensuring smooth fuel supply and distribution across the country.
In the metropolitan areas of Dhaka and Chattogram, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) will appoint the tag officers while deputy commissioners will assign the officers in district and divisional cities outside the two metropolitan areas.
Meanwhile, Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) will appoint tag officers for stations in areas under their purview.
