HC orders seizure of ballot papers, result sheets of Mymensingh-6 polls

The High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has directed the Election Commission of Bangladesh to take into custody the ballot papers and result sheets of the Mymensingh-6 constituency.
The order was issued today (16 March) after the court accepted for hearing a petition filed by defeated BNP candidate Md Akhtarul Alam challenging the election result.
A single bench of Justice Mohammad Ali also issued notices to the respondents in the case.
Advocates Laxman Biswas and Md Shamim Darji represented the petitioner during the hearing.

Under Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972, an election tribunal is formed in the High Court to hear petitions over alleged electoral irregularities.
