50 dwellings burned as fire engulfs Ctg slum
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage will be determined after investigation, said Fire Service officials.
At least 50 dwelling houses were burned as a fire broke out at a slum beside KDS Garments in Chattogram city's Oxygen Mor area this morning (1 December).
Six units of the Fire Service brought the fire under control in about one and a half hours, according to officials at the Chattogram Fire Control Room.
The fire originated in one of the slum houses around 9:35am and spread rapidly. Upon receiving the alert, five units from different fire stations in the city rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 11:30am. However, officials said it would take more time to fully extinguish the fire.
Fire Service Control Room Sources said the fire might have originated from an oven of a kitchen of Ledu Meah's slum beside the rail crossing area.
The extent of damage and the cause of the fire are still under investigation, the sources added.
