Aktari Begum, 30, a housewife from Faridpur's Sadarpur upazila was reportedly attacked by a local man and his associates this morning (7 March) for not paying extortion money.

The incident took place in the East Shyampur village of the upazila. Locals rescued her and admitted her to the Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex.

Talking to The Business Standard, Aktari claimed that she went to fill soil on a piece of land she owns this morning. But a local named Aynal Bepari obstructed her work and demanded a large sum of money as extortion.

After failing to collect the money, a group of people led by Aynal attacked the housewife.

Abdul Motaleb, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadarpur Police Station, said the victim's husband has filed a complaint at the police station.

"Legal action will be taken after an investigation," he added.

TBS could not reach Aynal Bepari for his comment in this matter.
