Ex-MP Nadwi placed on 3-day remand

A Chattogram court has placed former member of parliament from Chattogram-15 constituency Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadwi on three-day remand in a case filed over violence during the July 2024 student movement.
The court of Chattogram's Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafa passed the order today (23 February), Assistant Public Prosecutor Advocate Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury told The Business Standard.
Nadwi is accused in a case filed with the Kotwali Police Station in connection with the attack on protesters in the New Market area of the city during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement last year.
The court has also placed two other accused – Shamsul Alam Bhuiyan and Selim Rahman – on three-day remand and allowed four more accused – Manjur Alam, Nazim Uddin, Jane Alam and Tipu Nandi – to be interrogated at jail gate.
Multiple cases were filed against Nadwi in various police stations in Satkania, Lohagara, and metropolitan areas of Chattogram following the political changeover on 5 August. After remaining in hiding for over three months, he was arrested in Dhaka on 15 December.
Earlier on 22 January, he was placed on a four-day remand in connection with two cases under Lohagara and Satkania Police Stations. On 26 January, he was again placed on a four-day remand in two other cases.
