'Chhoto Sajjad' placed on 7-day remand in double murder case in Ctg, shown arrested in 8 more cases
Police had initially requested a 10-day remand, but the court approved a 7-day term after hearing arguments

A Chattogram court today (13 April) granted police a 7-day remand of top criminal Sajjad Hossain alias "Choto Sajjad" in a case filed over the killing of two people in the Bakolia area.
The remand order was issued by Judge Ibrahim Khalil of the Chattogram Second Metropolitan Magistrate Court around 2pm today.
Police had initially requested a 10-day remand, but the court approved a 7-day term after hearing arguments, Chattogram Metropolitan Police's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Mofiz Uddin confirmed to The Business Standard.
"In the Bakolia double murder case, we requested a 10-day remand for Sajjad. After a hearing, the court granted seven days," he said.
Besides, three separate courts approved police petitions to show Sajjad arrested in eight other cases filed with three police stations -Hathazari, Chandgaon, and Bayezid- in Chattogram.
The suspect, arrested last month, was brought to court under tight security this morning.
Chattogram District Court Inspector Habibur Rahman said, "Sajjad was brought to court in the afternoon under heavy security. We sought to show him arrested in two Hathazari cases—one for murder and one for assault. The court accepted our request."
Court sources said at around 12:30pm, police filed petitions to show Sajjad arrested in two cases with Hathazari Police Station, including one murder case and another involving an assault. Senior Judicial Magistrate Nazmun Nahar approved the request.
On the same day, the Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Court granted police petitions to show Sajjad arrested in five separate cases under Chandgaon Police Station, while the Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate Court approved a similar petition for a case under Bayezid Police Station.
Chhoto Sajjad, son of M. Jamal from Shikarpur in Hathazari, is known as one of Chattogram's most feared criminals. He faces over 15 criminal cases, including charges of murder, illegal arms possession, and extortion.
He was arrested on the night of 15 March in Bashundhara City in Dhaka. Less than two weeks later, on the night of 29 March, a double murder occurred in the Access Road area under Bakolia Police Station, where two men—Md Abdullah and Md. Manik—were shot and killed inside a private car.
Following the incident, on 1 April, Manik's mother Firoza Begum filed a murder case with Bakolia Police Station. Sajjad, his wife Sharmin Tamanna, and three others were named as accused. Both Sajjad and Sharmin were listed as the masterminds behind the attack.
As police proceed with their investigation, authorities have said more arrests and legal actions may follow.
In a separate development, the Appellate Division today ordered three people, including Sharmin Akhter Tamanna, the wife of "Choto Sajjad", to surrender within the next seven days in the case filed over the killing of the two people inside a private car in Baklia.
