Zia assassination convict Mozzaffar shown arrested in July Uprising case
The tribunal has also fixed 23 September as the deadline for submitting the investigation report.
Major (retd) Md Mozzaffar Hossain, convicted over the assassination of former president Ziaur Rahman, has been shown arrested in a case filed over crimes against humanity committed in Feni during the 2024 July Uprising.
Issuing the order today (23 July), the International Crimes Tribunal-2, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, also granted investigators permission to interrogate him for two days. Lieutenant General (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury is also an accused in this case. Mozzafar was produced before the tribunal this morning and will remain in custody at the military detention facility in Dhaka Cantonment.
During the hearing, ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam appeared for the prosecution, seeking an order to show Mozzafar arrested in the case and requesting two days of interrogation. The prosecution also sought an additional two months to complete its investigation. Following the hearing, the tribunal approved the prosecution's application, formally showing Mozzafar arrested in the case. Investigators have been authorised to question him for two days at a time and place convenient for the investigating agency. The tribunal also fixed 23 September as the deadline for submitting the investigation report. Earlier in the day, Masud was also produced before the tribunal in this case.

Prosecutors further alleged that he remained in regular contact with Masud during the killings that took place in Feni during the July Uprising, forming the basis for the application to show him arrested in the case. After reportedly remaining a fugitive for nearly 45 years, Mozaffar was arrested recently from a residence in the Banani area of the capital. The following day, he was handed over to the Military Police at Dhaka Cantonment.
