Ex-DGFI chief Sheikh Mamun Khaled detained by DB
He has been taken to DB office in Minto Road.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police detained former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), Lt Gen (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, in the early hours of today (26 March).
Detectives picked him up from his residence in Mirpur DOHS around 1:15am, confirmed DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam.
He has been taken to the DB office in Minto Road, he added.
"He has been accused in a case filed with the International Crimes Tribunal," the official said, without providing further details.
No official statement outlining the specific allegations has yet been issued by law enforcement or the tribunal.
However, sources claimed that the former intelligence chief is facing multiple allegations, including amassing wealth through illegal means, involving the DGFI in political activities, and orchestrating controversial "militant drama" narratives.
The sources also alleged that he was involved in large-scale corruption, including misappropriation of funds from the Jolshiri Housing Project, and is considered linked to the so-called "Ayna Ghor".
Additionally, the sources claimed that during the tenure of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, he used influence tied to Sajeeb Wazed Joy to accumulate illegal wealth.
Authorities have not officially confirmed these claims.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
He served as the Director of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) from December 2007 to December 2010 and as the Director General of the same organisation from 23 June 2011, to 7 March 2013. He is often alleged to have played a significant role in establishing Sheikh Hasina's 15-year fascist government.
The Anti-Corruption Commission launched an investigation against the former army officer about a year and a half ago over allegations of illegal share trading, abuse of power, financial embezzlement through various irregularities and corruption, and acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. A travel ban was already imposed on him in May 2025.
