Dismissed DGFI official Afzal Naser placed on fresh remand in BNP activist killing case
Following the completion of four previous remand terms totalling 15 days, the investigating officer had produced the accused in court and sought a fresh five-day remand.
A Dhaka court has ordered a fresh three-day remand for dismissed DGFI official Afzal Naser in a case filed over the killing of BNP activist Makbul Hossain.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamsed Alam issued the order today (14 April) after a hearing held in the afternoon.
Earlier, following completion of four previous remand terms totalling 15 days, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Tofazzal Hossain of the special operations team under the Detective Branch Motijheel Division, produced the accused in court and sought a fresh five-day remand.
Defence counsel pleaded for cancellation of the remand plea and sought bail, while state counsel Md Azizul Haque Didar opposed the bail petition.
After hearing both sides, the court granted a three-day remand.
Afzal Naser was arrested on 30 March at a house on Road 12 in Mirpur DOHS.
He was then remanded for 15 days in four phases.
According to the case statement, on 10 December 2022, the BNP announced a one-point movement demanding the fall of the then government.
During the programme, attacks and vandalism were carried out at the party's Naya Paltan office and thousands of party leaders and activists gathered nearby also came under attack.
A BNP activist, Makbul Hossain, was shot and killed during the incident.
In connection with the incident, a case was filed on 30 September by Mahfuzur Rahman against 256 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
