Businessman beaten to death in Ctg, 1 detained
Primary investigations revealed that the two were former business partners.
A foreign currency exchange businessman was beaten to death in the Karnaphuli upazila of Chattogram last night (10 April).
Later, police detained the accused, Abu Tayeb, 50, in connection with the killing.
The victim, Md Didarul Alam, 50, was brought to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in critical condition around 9:30pm.
The attending physician admitted him to Ward No 28, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Shahinur Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Karnaphuli Police Station, told The Business Standard that the suspect was detained in a raid following the incident.
The body of the deceased is kept at the CMCH morgue, he said, adding that further legal action will be taken based on complaints from the victim's family.
According to police, the incident occurred when the accused, Abu Tayeb, confronted Didarul in the Moijjartek area, leading to an altercation.

Abu Tayeb reportedly had outstanding dues from Didarul, and a long-standing dispute had persisted over the unpaid debt.
At one point, Abu Tayeb allegedly struck Didarul on the head with a brick, leaving him severely injured. Locals rescued him and rushed him to the hospital.
Both Didarul and Abu Tayeb were residents of the Kalarpul area in Patiya upazila.
