Man hacked to death in Sitakunda, 2 detained
A man was hacked to death after being called out of his in-laws' house in Sitakunda upazila on late last night (8 April). Police recovered the body in the early hours of today and detained two suspects.
The victim was identified as Md Jahangir Alam Shamim, 40, a resident of Shibpur area under Sitakunda municipality. He served as organising secretary of a ward committee of the now-banned Awami League and also a relative of Sitakunda's top terror Mohammad Ali, according to local sources.
The killing took place near the Taltala embankment in the Madhya Bhatarkhil area under Muradpur union of the upazila, confirmed Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda Police Station Mohammad Mohinul Islam.
Family members said a group of 30 to 40 armed men called Shamim outside while he was staying at his in-laws' house last night. He was then taken to a secluded spot where the attackers hacked him and severed tendons in his legs before fleeing the scene.
Police detained two suspects this morning in connection with the incident.
OC Mohammad Mohinul Islam said the identities of the detainees were being withheld in the interest of the investigation.
"Primary investigation revealed that the victim was killed over personal rivalry and dispute of money transactions", he said.
There are several injury marks all over the body. The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy and case is under process in this connection", he added.
