Ex-AL minister Ramesh Chandra dies while in jail custody
The former MP was detained by Thakurgaon police on 16 August, 2024 and sent to Thakurgaon District Jail through a court order.
Former water resources minister and Awami League lawmaker from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, Ramesh Chandra Sen, died at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital this morning (7 February) while in jail custody. He was 85.
Ramesh fell ill at Dinajpur District Jail earlier today and was taken to the emergency department of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 9:29am, Dinajpur Jail jailer Farhad Sarkar told The Business Standard.
The body will be handed over after completing the post-mortem, Farhad added.
Farhad said that the former MP was detained by Thakurgaon police on 16 August, 2024 and sent to Thakurgaon District Jail through a court order.
He was later transferred to Dinajpur District Jail on 17 August. He had been in custody in connection with three cases, including one for murder.
Ramesh Chandra was elected MP from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency in the 7th and 9th national parliamentary elections in 1996 and 2008.
