48% of AL voters shifting to BNP: Survey
Jamaat draws 29.9% of ex-AL voters; NCP 6.5%, others 13%
More than 90% of voters are interested in casting ballots in the upcoming national parliamentary election, according to a recent opinion survey published today (4 February).
The survey also shows that nearly half of voters, 48% who previously supported the Awami League (AL) now plan to vote for the BNP in the next election.
The survey, titled "Uncovering the Public Pulse: Findings from a Nationwide Survey," was conducted by the Communication and Research Foundation (CRF) and Bangladesh Election and Public Opinion Studies. The findings were presented at a press conference at the National Press Club.
CRF Strategic Coordinator Zakaria Palash said the survey covered 11,038 voters across 180 parliamentary constituencies in all 64 districts.
"The survey was conducted in two phases between 20 November 2025 and 31 January 2026," he said.
According to the survey, 48.2% of voters who previously voted for the Awami League said they would vote for the BNP this time. Among the same group, 29.9% said they would vote for Jamaat-e-Islami, 6.5% for the National Citizen Party (NCP), and 13% for other parties. Another 2.4% said they are yet to decide.
Corruption was identified as the most important voting issue by 67.3% of respondents, followed by religion at 35.9%. Rising prices of essentials, employment, development and security also emerged as key concerns.
Those present at the press conference said voter turnout could fall if security and order are not ensured on polling day. They stressed the need for effective action by the Election Commission and the government to ensure the safety of women and elderly voters.
