EU chief election observer Ijabs meets Jamaat ameer, discusses polls, bilateral ties
The European Union assured that it would deploy a 200-member delegation to observe Bangladesh’s forthcoming national parliamentary election
A three-member delegation led by the chief observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) and member of the European Parliament, Ivars Ijabs, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman at his Bashundhara office this noon (12 January).
During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and the European Union.
Particular emphasis was placed on cooperation to ensure that the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election is conducted in a free, fair and credible manner. The importance of further strengthening and sustaining Bangladesh's constitutional and democratic institutions was also underscored.

Both sides expressed optimism that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the European Union, along with the country's development and progress, would continue in the future.
Also present at the meeting were Assistant Secretary General of the organisation and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer; eminent academic Zubayer Ahmed; Development Team Lead Dewan Alamgir; and Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Jamaat-e-Ameer Professor Mahmudul Hasan.
