RU teachers, staff continue work stoppage for fourth day; students protest suspension of activities
They are pressing an eight-point demand, which they claim is essential to eliminate discrimination at the university

Teachers, officers, and employees of Rajshahi University (RU) are observing a full-day work stoppage and sit-in for the fourth consecutive day, while students have begun protesting against the suspension of classes and administrative activities.
The teachers, officers, and employees began their programme at 9am today (19 August) in front of the administrative building, halting all academic and administrative work.
They are pressing an eight-point demand, which they claim is essential to eliminate discrimination at the university.
Among their demands are improved campus security, better residential facilities, expansion of transportation, provision of personal chambers and increased research funding for teachers, interest-free loans for staff, reinstatement of the dependent quota for children's education, improved working conditions for employees, and swift trial and punishment of those they describe as "fascists, corrupt individuals, and oppressors."
Meanwhile, a section of RU students has staged a protest rally against the ongoing work stoppage.
At 11am, they formed a human chain on Paris Road in front of the vice-chancellor's residence, accusing the demonstrators of suspending activities to push what they termed an "unjustified dependent quota."
The students called for a united movement to resist the demand and urged leaders and members of all social, cultural, and political organisations on campus to join their protest.
