Notre Dame College hosts country’s largest student-led science festival

To institutionalise the practice of science, technology, and general knowledge among students, Notre Dame College successfully hosted one of the country's largest educational festivals—the Notre Dame Annual Science Festival 2024—alongside the prestigious 34th General Knowledge Competition (GKC).
The main festival was held on 30 April, 1 May, and 5 May at the Notre Dame College campus in Dhaka. Preceding the main event, an online divisional round was organised on 25 and 26 April, where over 15,000 students from 350 educational institutions across all eight divisions of the country took part, making it one of the most inclusive and far-reaching science-based student competitions in Bangladesh.
Dr Saiful Islam, Vice-Chancellor of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), was present as Chief Guest at the festival's closing ceremony. In his address, he stressed the importance of science, technology, and innovation in shaping the nation's future and encouraged young minds to embrace research-based education.
Father Hemonto Pius Rozario, Principal of Notre Dame College, attended the event as Special Guest. He spoke of the need to blend scientific knowledge with moral and ethical values to ensure students' holistic development.
The programme was presided over by Vincent Titas Rozario, Moderator of the Notre Dame Science Club. Under his guidance and through the dedicated efforts of club members, the large-scale event was executed successfully.
Participants from schools and colleges across the country showcased their creativity, critical thinking, and scientific curiosity through a series of vibrant competitions. Highlights included the Father Richard Timm Memorial Science Olympiad (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics), the 34th General Knowledge Competition (GKC), Innovative Project Exhibition, Poster Presentation and Scientific Model Display, Robotics Events (Line Following Robot, Robo Soccer), Quiz Competitions, and Multimedia Presentations.
The festival fostered a spirit of collaborative learning, as students not only competed but also learned from one another. Through this grand celebration, the Notre Dame Science Club reaffirmed its commitment to promoting leadership, innovation, and scientific temperament among the youth of Bangladesh.
