This year, 912 universities from 84 countries have been ranked under the UI GreenMetric 2020.

Wageningen University and Research situated in the Netherlands has been ranked first in the world while Oxford University in the UK has been ranked second.

The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is the first and only university ranking in the world that measures each participating university's commitment in developing an "environmentally friendly" infrastructure.

The rankings look at 6 indicators of each university: setting and infrastructure (15 percent), energy and climate change (21 percent), waste (18 percent), water (10 percent), transportation (18 percent), and education and research (18 percent).

IUBAT is the first non-government university founded in 1991 in Bangladesh by Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan.

The Founder declared the university as a Green Campus in 2008 with the vision of providing an environment designed for learning with embedded sustainability in higher education, the release said.
