HSC exams resume in flood-hit Ctg, with 1,825 candidates absent

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations under the Chattogram Education Board resumed today (27 July) after repeated postponements caused by floods and adverse weather, with 1,825 candidates absent on the first day.

The examinations began at 10am in line with the revised schedule, alongside those held under the country's nine general education boards, the Madrasah Education Board and the Technical Education Board.

Candidates sat for Civics and Good Governance (First Paper), Biology (Theory, First Paper) and Business Organisation and Management (First Paper) examinations.

According to Chattogram Education Board data, 77,556 candidates were expected to sit the examinations across the board's five districts. Of them, 75,731 appeared, while 1,825 were absent.

The Chattogram Education Board suspended all HSC and equivalent examinations on 16 July until further notice due to post-flood conditions, damaged transport links and difficulties faced by examinees.

Earlier, examinations scheduled for 8 July and 11 July had also been postponed because of heavy rainfall.

Chattogram Education Board Controller of Examinations Professor Parvez Sazzad said the examinations have now resumed according to the regular schedule.

District-wise figures show that of the 56,587 candidates expected to sit the examinations in Chattogram district, 55,385 appeared while 1,202 were absent. The number of absentees stood at 263 in Cox's Bazar, 154 in Khagrachhari, 109 in Rangamati and 97 in Bandarban.

According to the office of the controller of examinations, based on reports from district administrations, the examinations were completed peacefully at all 114 examination centres under the board.
