Case filed against Khulshi OC, 8 others over alleged vandalism, looting in Ctg

A case has been filed in a Chattogram court against nine people, including Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdur Rahim of Khulshi Police Station, over allegations of illegally entering a house, vandalism, looting, assault and firing rubber bullets.
Md Jabed, 66, filed the case with the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court yesterday (13 September). He is the father of expelled Chattogram Metropolitan Jatiyatabadi Swechhasebak Dal joint convener Wakil Hossain alias Bihari Boga.
The plaintiff's lawyer, SM Moinul Islam, said the court took cognisance of the case and directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police to investigate it.

Besides OC Mohammad Abdur Rahim, the accused are Sub-Inspector Shah Poran, Md Anwar Hossain, a member from the Jalalabad area, Jubo League member Babu alias Prakash, Md Mizanur Rahman from the Pahartali College area, Aman Ullah Aman from West Khulshi, and journalists Arif and Asad Ullah from Nasirabad Housing Society.
According to the case petition, the accused illegally entered Jabed's house at Wireless intersection in Ward 13 of Pahartali under Khulshi Police Station at around 4:30am on 4 September.
Jabed alleged that the accused vandalised the house, looted valuables, assaulted residents and fired rubber bullets during the incident.
He alleged that after entering the residential quarters, the accused vandalised furniture, doors, windows and other belongings, causing damage worth around Tk3 lakh.
They later entered the room of his daughter-in-law, Rekha Begum, broke open a wardrobe and took Tk8 lakh in cash and around three bhori of gold ornaments, according to the case petition. The plaintiff claimed total losses of around Tk17 lakh.
Earlier, on 29 August, a case was filed with Khulshi Police Station over allegations of abducting and assaulting a teacher of Pahartali College. Jabed's son Wakil Hossain was named as an accused in that case.
Police claimed that they conducted a raid early on 4 September to arrest Wakil in connection with the case, when his followers put up barricades on the road, attacked police and vandalised police vehicles.
Following the incident, police filed a separate case naming 21 people and 250 unidentified others.
