DU orders nighttime closure of residential hall gates until further notice

The University of Dhaka has ordered all pocket gates of its residential halls to remain closed from 9pm to 6am until further notice, as part of enhanced security measures to prevent untoward incidents on campus. 

The directive, issued today by the Public Relations Office and circulated by the DU Estate Office to all student halls, also requires security personnel across faculties, halls, institutes, and administrative buildings to wear designated uniforms while on duty and maintain heightened vigilance, especially regarding outsiders' presence and movement.

Security staff are instructed to immediately report any suspicious individuals or activities to the relevant head of office, the proctor's office, or the estate manager.

This follows recent security incidents, including an alleged crude bomb blast near the Shahid Buddhijibi Dr Muhammad Mortaza Medical Centre and firecracker explosions close to the Raju Memorial Sculpture. 

Police and university authorities are investigating, with CCTV footage handed to law enforcement to aid identification of those responsible.

Additional measures include continuous police deployment since 25 June at TSC and the Vice Chancellor's Residence.

The heightened security coincides with politically sensitive anniversaries this July, marking last year's mass uprising which resulted in the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 5 August.
