Dhaka University’s 53rd convocation on Saturday

Dhaka University is going to hold its 53rd convocation on Saturday amid festive moods, with the participation of 30,348 graduates.
 
President Abdul Hamid, Chancellor of the university, will preside over the gala event while Nobel laureate French economist Prof Jean Tirole will join it as the convocation speaker, said a press release.
 
Meanwhile, DU vice-chancellor M Akhtaruzzaman at a press conference at the Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom on the campus on Thursday said all the preparations have already been completed to hold the convocation in a festive mood.
 
A total of 131 meritorious teachers, researchers and students will be awarded with 153 gold medals, 97 PhD, two DBA and 35 MPhil degrees.
 
At the programme, Professor Jean Tirole will be awarded with honorary doctorate degrees (Doctor of Law).
 
A total of 30,348 graduates and researchers completed registration to attend the program. Among them, a total of 22,287 students will participate in the venue of Dhaka University.
 
Besides, 7,796 students of seven DU-affiliated colleges will participate in the Dhaka College and Eden Mohila College venues through the digital platforms.
 
Graduates, researchers who registered for the convocation and the invitees will only be allowed to attend the program. The graduates have been asked to enter the venue by 11am to join the convocation ceremony.
 
Students, who have registered for the convocation, were seen busy with photo sessions wearing convocation gowns and caps to make the event memorable.
 
At the press conference, the DU Vice Chancellor also sought cooperation of all members of the Dhaka University family, members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, RAB, other law enforcement agencies, fire service, and Dhaka South City Corporation and media personnel to hold the event smoothly and beautifully.
