Dhaka University cancels ex-Chhatra League secretary Rabbani's MPhil admission
The legality of his former GS post at Duscu at is a matter for the university to decide, says the dean of arts faculty
The Dhaka University Academic Council has cancelled the admission of former Chhatra League general secretary Golam Rabbani and two other students after an investigation confirmed irregularities in their enrolment in the MPhil programme.
The decision was finalised at an Academic Council meeting held on Wednesday night (26 November) at the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building.
The admissions of Rabbani, along with those of Criminology Department students Mehjabin Haque and Fahmida Tasnim Anir, were cancelled after their entry was proven illegal. Professor Dr Siddiqur Rahman Khan, dean of the Faculty of Arts and a member of the council, confirmed the development to The Business Standard.
Earlier, the university syndicate—acting on the findings of a probe committee—had recommended cancelling Rabbani's studentship on grounds of fraudulence in admission process. With the Academic Council's approval, Rabbani's admission is now officially void.
"The Academic Council deals only with admission matters. The legality of his former GS post at Duscu at is a matter for the university to decide," said Professor Siddiqur Rahman.
The controversy dates back to February 25, 2019, when Ducsu GS candidate Rashed Khan and Gono Odhikar Parishad's Dhaka University convener Md Sanaullah Haque filed a complaint regarding the trio's admission.
Following an investigation, the syndicate recommended on 16 September that their temporary studentship be revoked, a recommendation now upheld by the Academic Council.
