EC unveils draft list of 42,618 polling centres for upcoming election
The list of polling stations will be finalised on 20 October, says EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

The Election Commission (EC) has disclosed the draft number of 42,618 polling centres for the upcoming election, raising the number by around 468 from last year.
"A total of 42,618 polling stations were fixed, considering one station is for on average 300 voters," said EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed while talking to reporters at EC Bhaban in the capital today (10 September).
He mentioned that the list of polling stations will be finalised on 20 October.
"The commission will receive claims and complaints over the draft list of polling centres till 25 September and dispose of the complaints by 12 October and finalise the list on 20 October," he added.
According to the draft list, there will be 2,44,046 polling booths under the 42,618 polling centres during the next election, he said.
Compared to the last election, the number of booths has been reduced by around 17,426.
The EC Secretary said some 1,14,939 polling booths are for male voters, fixing one booth per 600 male voters, while 1,29,107 booths are for females, fixing one booth per 500 female voters.
