The search committee was formed in accordance with the Clause-3 of 'The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022'

The six-member search committee formed to constitute a new Election Commission will pay a courtesy call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban at 6.15pm tomorrow (20 November), President's Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS this evening (19 November).

The search committee was formed in accordance with the Clause-3 of "The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022," to recommend the names of qualified individuals for the positions of chief election commissioner and other election commissioners.

The committee will be headed by Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury, judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court

Besides, the other members are the judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, former professor of Dhaka University's International Relations Department Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, former chairman of Bangladesh Bangladesh Public Service Commission Dr Zinnatun Nesa Tahmida Begum.

Apart from this, the committee also includes Controller General of Accounts for the post of Comptroller and Auditor General Md Nurul Islam and the chairman of Bangladesh Public Service Commission Prof Mobasser Monem as members.

Earlier, a gazette notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid to constitute the search committee was published on 31 October.

The cabinet division will provide all necessary secretarial support to the search committee in carrying out its responsibilities.
