EC to announce national election roadmap next week
"The commission will hold a meeting with journalists to provide them with a clear understanding of its election preparations," EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed says

The Election Commission (EC) will announce the roadmap for the upcoming national parliamentary elections next week, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said today (14 August).
"The roadmap will include all preparations and detailed guidelines for the polls," he told the reporters during a briefing at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon.
"We have discussed the commission's roadmap. Hopefully, we will be able to release our election roadmap next week, which will give you [journalists] an idea about our preparations," Akhtar added.
He also said the commission will hold a meeting with journalists to provide them with a clear understanding of its election preparations.
The secretary further said, "The roadmap will outline preparations before and after the announcement of the election schedule, including voter list updates, delimitation of constituencies, party registration, amendments to election laws, procurement of equipment, dialogue with political parties and stakeholders, training, printing, law and order meetings, and discussions with election officials."
According to commission sources, the EC initially prepared a preliminary action plan targeting December 2025 for the polls. However, with the election now expected in February, the plan is being revised according to the new timeline.
A meeting is scheduled for 18 August to finalise the action plan. Once approved by the EC, it may be published in booklet form.
On 6 August, the Chief Adviser's Office formally requested the commission to complete all preparations for the 13th parliamentary election before Ramadan begins in February 2026.
In a letter sent to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, Principal Secretary to the chief adviser M Siraj Uddin Mia urged the commission to take appropriate steps to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and festive national election that meets public expectations.
Later on 9 August, the CEC announced that the election would be held in the first half of February next year.
