DU suspends ex-IGP Benazir’s doctorate over eligibility violation
According to the fact-finding report, a minimum of 50% marks in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies is mandatory to enrol in the DBA programme. However, Benazir failed to meet this criterion.

Dhaka University (DU) has suspended the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree awarded to former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, after finding evidence that he obtained the degree without meeting the required qualifications.
The decision was made at a Syndicate meeting held on 20 July, based on a report submitted by a fact-finding committee. DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr Mamun Ahmed confirmed the matter to The Business Standard today (1 August).
According to the fact-finding report, a minimum of 50% marks in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies is mandatory to enrol in the DBA programme. However, Benazir failed to meet this criterion.
The pro-VC said that a five-member high-level investigation committee, led by him, has been formed to further examine the issue.
The other members of the committee are, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Syndicate member Prof Abu Yousuf, Prof ABM Shahidul Islam from the Department of Marketing and DU Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, who is serving as the member secretary.
The committee has been asked to submit a final report within 30 working days.
