Traffic on Sherpur Bridge to remain suspended for 3 days
The restriction will be effective from 8am on 24 April to 8am on 26 April.
Vehicular movement on the Sherpur Bridge along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway will remain suspended for three days from Friday (24 April) due to emergency repair work.
According to a notice signed by Mohammad Minhajur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj, the restriction will be effective from 8am on 24 April to 8am on 26 April.
The notice stated that repair work on the damaged deck slab of Sherpur Bridge, located at the 186th kilometre of the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway over the Kushiyara River, will be carried out during this period.
As per the schedule, vehicles will be allowed to move on a single lane from 8am to 11pm on 24 April.
The bridge will remain completely closed to all types of vehicles from 11pm on 24 April to 9am on 25 April. Limited vehicular movement will resume on one lane from 9am on 25 April until 8am on 26 April.
The bridge will be reopened for normal traffic after completion of the repair work at 8am on 26 April.
During the closure, the district administration urged commuters to use alternative routes.
Vehicles travelling on the Shayestaganj–Sherpur–Sylhet route have been advised to use the Shayestaganj–Mirpur (Bahubal)–Sreemangal–Moulvibazar–Fenchuganj–Sylhet road.
Similarly, vehicles on the Sherpur (Moulvibazar)–Sylhet route should use the Moulvibazar–Fenchuganj–Sylhet road, while those on the Dhaka–Sylhet–Sunamganj route have been asked to take the Nabiganj's Syedpur Bazar–Raniganj–Jagannathpur–Sunamganj road.
