2 killed in three-way collision on Dhaka-Sylhet highway days after 9 die
The accident brought traffic on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway to a halt for around two and a half hours.
Two people were killed in a three-way collision involving an oil tanker, a sand-laden truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj today (9 August).
The accident occurred around 12:30pm on the Bejura Bridge, just days after nine people were killed in a head-on collision between two buses on the same highway in Osmaninagar, confirmed Madhabpur Police Station Sub-Inspector Faruk Mia.
The deceased were identified as Ripon Mia, 27, a resident of Ratanpur village in Madhabpur, who was travelling in the truck, and Abul Khayer, 50, son of Nasir Uddin, a resident of Madhabpur municipality, who was travelling in the CNG, and died on the spot.

Shayestaganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shuvo Ranjan Chakma said the process of handing over the bodies to the families was underway.
Legal action has been initiated, and the vehicles involved in the accident have been seized, he added.
According to police and locals, the oil tanker and the sand-laden truck collided head-on on the bridge. Due to the impact, the truck lost control and crashed into a passing CNG-run auto-rickshaw. Locals later informed the police.
Being informed, teams from Madhabpur Police Station, Shayestaganj Highway Police and the Fire Service rushed to the scene and conducted a rescue operation. The injured were rescued from the vehicles and taken to a local hospital.
