Dengue claims 5 more lives, 159 new patients hospitalised
Four of the deaths occurred in Barisal Division, while the other occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation.

Five more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Friday morning (13 June) – the highest number of deaths in a single day so far this year, raising the number of fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 28 this year.
During the same period, 159 new patients were admitted to hospitals around the country. Among them, 124 are from the Barisal Division, according to the daily press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
It said that among the five deceased, two were male and three were female. Four of the deaths occurred in Barisal Division (outside of the city corporation area), while the other occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Among the 159 newly infected patients, 88 are male and 71 are female.
Of them, Barishal Division (out of city corporation area) alone reported 124 new cases; Chattogram Division (outside city corporations) recorded nine cases, Dhaka Division (outside city corporations) reported nine, while 12 cases were detected in DSCC, one in Dhaka North City Corporation, another one in Sylhet Division (outside of city corporation), and three in Khulna Division (out of city corporation).
The press release also said that 104 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours. So far this year, 5,011 patients have been discharged.
As of 13 June, the total number of dengue cases stands at 5,570, of which 55.3% are male and 44.7% female. Also, of the total, 4,255 are from outside Dhaka.
Currently, 5,311 dengue patients are undergoing treatment, including 404 from outside Dhaka.
Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people around the nation. According to the DGHS, there were 1,01,214 dengue cases and 1,00,040 recoveries in the same year.
In 2023, 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record. The DGHS recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries that year.
