Cyber patrolling intensified to prevent rumours during Christmas: DMP commissioner
The commissioner requested city residents to refrain from motorcar racing on New Year’s Eve, warning that vehicles involved in racing will be seized
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has strengthened security measures across the capital to ensure that Christmas is celebrated peacefully and in a festive atmosphere, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali said today (18 December).
"Christians will observe Christmas through religious events at 73 churches in the Dhaka metropolitan area. To prevent any kind of rumours or propaganda, cyber patrolling has been intensified alongside heightened intelligence monitoring," he said.
The DMP commissioner made the remarks at a meeting held at the DMP headquarters organised in preparation for Christmas, as well as the year-end celebrations and the English New Year.
He instructed subordinate officers to ensure public safety while maintaining normalcy, stressing that security arrangements should not disrupt the general movement of people.
"Care must be taken so that the security cordon does not hamper the normal movement of the public," he said.
Referring to several upcoming events in the capital, he urged all concerned to remain vigilant so that no untoward incidents occur, particularly during the celebrations surrounding the 31st night.
He also requested city residents to refrain from motorcar racing on New Year's Eve, warning that vehicles involved in racing will be seized.
The meeting was attended by leaders of the Christian community, additional police commissioners, DMP joint commissioners, deputy commissioners of police, and officers-in-charge of the concerned police stations.
