Curfew in Gopalganj eased for 14 hours
“The curfew will remain relaxed from 6am to 8pm on Saturday," Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman told reporters at around 11pm last night (18 July)

The ongoing curfew in Gopalganj, imposed in the wake of deadly clashes centring the National Citizen Party (NCP) rally, has been temporarily relaxed until 8pm today (19 July).
"The curfew will remain relaxed from 6am to 8pm on Saturday," Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman told reporters at around 11pm last night (18 July), reports Prothom Alo.
According to the district administration, a further decision regarding the curfew will be made after assessing the overall situation in the district and holding discussions with law enforcement agencies.
Violence erupted across several parts of Gopalganj last Wednesday over the NCP's rally, with multiple rounds of clashes breaking out. Members of the banned Awami League and its student front, Bangladesh Chhatra League, reportedly carried out the attacks.
Following incidents of arson and crude bomb explosions, Section 144 was initially imposed. However, as the situation worsened, a full curfew was declared in the city from 6pm on Wednesday.
So far, five people have been killed in the violence.
