Measles outbreak: Death toll climbs to 555 with 10 more deaths in 24hrs
According to DGHS data, a total of 1,083 suspected measles cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the overall suspected cases to 66,023.
Ten more children died from measles and similar symptoms in Bangladesh in 24 hours till 8am today (26 May), taking the total death toll to 555 since 15 March 2026.
Of the new deaths, one was confirmed as measles-related while the remaining nine were classified as suspected, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
During the same period, 1,083 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide. Of these, 53 cases were laboratory-confirmed as measles.
So far this year, at least 88 children have died from confirmed measles infections in Bangladesh. In addition, 467 children have died with symptoms consistent with measles.
DGHS data shows that between 15 March and 26 May, a total of 8,772 measles cases were confirmed through laboratory testing.
According to the latest health bulletin, 66,023 suspected measles cases have been identified nationwide. Of these 48,800 patients have already been discharged after receiving treatment.
