Assailants gunned down Azizur Rahman Musabbir on Wednesday night in the Tejturi Bazar area of Tejgaon.
Police have detained three people, including the alleged main shooter, in connection with the shooting death of Azizur Rahman Musabbir, former general secretary of BNP volunteer wing Swechchhasebak Dal's Dhaka North unit, in Dhaka's Tejgaon area.
Detectives made the arrests early today (10 January) during separate raids in Manikganj and Gazipur, a senior Detective Branch official confirmed.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the officer said the arrestees include the alleged shooter Jinat and the suspected planner named Billal. The third detainee is believed to be an associate of the two, the officer added.
Assailants gunned down Musabbir on Wednesday night (7 January) in the Tejturi Bazar area of Tejgaon.
Sufian Byapari Masud, general secretary of the Karwan Bazar Van Owners' Association, who was accompanying him at the time, sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
According to police, the shooting occurred at around 8:20pm in front of the Ahsanullah Institute of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (AITVET), located behind Star Kabab in Tejgaon.
Investigators later recovered three 7.65mm bullet casings from the scene.
Musabbir and Masud were returning home from Super Star Hotel when assailants hiding in a dark alley opened fire.
Musabbir was hit in the right elbow and abdomen and collapsed at the spot.
Masud was shot in the left abdomen while attempting to intervene.
CCTV footage collected from the area shows two assailants running towards the Karwan Bazar main road, one of whom had his face covered.
Investigators believe at least five individuals were involved in the attack.
According to sources familiar with the matter, tension has been brewing among different political groups in the Karwan Bazar area over extortion and control of the area since 5 August 2024. Police are examining whether Musabbir's killing stemmed from internal party rivalry or broader political motives.
