The verdict in the Rajuk plot allocation corruption case, which names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her niece Tulip Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq, and 15 others, is scheduled for 2 February, the court announced today (13 January).
Following the conclusion of arguments from both the prosecution and defence, Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-4 fixed the date.
Public Prosecutor Jahirul Islam confirmed the development.
So far, the court has recorded testimonies from all 31 witnesses listed in the case.
On 13 January last year, the case was filed by ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya against Azmina Siddiq, alleging abuse of power and irregularities in obtaining several 10-katha plots in Rajuk's Purbachal New Model Town Project.
Subsequent investigations led to the inclusion of Sheikh Hasina, Tulip Siddiq, and 16 others as defendants.
On 10 March last year, a charge sheet was filed against a total of 18 accused.
Other defendants include senior officials of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, and former Rajuk authorities, such as Ministry of Housing and Public Works Administrative Officer Md Saiful Islam Sarkar, Senior Assistant Secretary Purabi Goldar, Additional Secretary Kazi Washi Uddin; former Rajuk chairman's PA Md Anisur Rahman Miah, former member Md Khurshid Alam, Tanmoy Das, Major (Eng) Samsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury (Ret), former Rajuk director Md Nurul Islam, assistant director Majharul Islam, director Kamrul Islam, deputy director Nayeb Ali Sharif, former principal secretary-1 Md Salah Uddin, and former state minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed.
