Suspect confesses to killing Saudi returnee doctor for money

One of the suspects in the murder of Saudi returnee doctor Md Shah Alam on Tuesday confessed that he committed the crime for money.
Md Faruq, who drives a human haulier popularly known as leguna, confessed before the Chattogram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court under Section 164.
Earlier, the Rapid Action Battalion detained him in Chittagong Railway Station area.

Dr Alam, 61, was a child specialist who returned to Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia two years ago to serve his countrymen.
He worked at Madina Maternity and Children's Hospital in Saudi Arabia for around 30 years.
On October 18, police recovered Alam's body from the roadside near Kumira Ghatghor area.
Quoting Faruq, Md Mashkur Rahman, assistant director (media) of RAB-7 told a press conference that some of Faruq's associates called him and asked him to come to Cherakandi area in Sitakunda upazila on October 17.
The associates got on Faruq's vehicle and tried to take other passenger on their way. At one stage, Dr Alam boarded the vehicle near Chhoto Kumira area around 10:30pm. Some other associates of Faruq also got on the vehicle when it reached Kebai area.
The men tried to snatch money and other valuables from Dr Alam when the vehicle reached near Royal Gate area. They stabbed him to death as he resisted and refused to give his belongings.
Later, they left his body near Kumira Ghatghor area, and drove to the nearby sea beach to wash the vehicle and knives.
Mashkur said the Rapid Action Battalion is trying to nab other fugitive suspects.
