A video of BNP's Chattogram South District Convener and former Patiya Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Idris Mia has gone viral on social media, drawing criticism over remarks perceived as a threat to government officials.

In the footage, Idris Mia is heard saying, "If the administration does not listen to BNP, they must leave their UNO and OC posts here and go elsewhere. We have given them enough chances. There is no more time for leniency. We must now forcefully claim our rights."

The video appears to have been recorded at an Eid reunion event, with a banner in the background indicating it was organised by the Satkania unit of the BNP.

Party sources said the event was held on Tuesday (10 June) at a community centre in Satkania and was jointly arranged by all organisational units of Upazila BNP. Idris Mia was present as the chief guest.

When contacted, Idris Mia denied making any such statement.

"The video has been edited with ill intentions to defame me," he told The Business Standard.

Idris Mia was recently appointed convener of the partial convening committee of the South Chattogram BNP, announced on 2 February.

A full 54-member committee was declared on 6 May. He had previously served as the unit's vice-president.

Several senior BNP leaders attended the Satkania event, including Member Secretary Lion Helal Uddin, Senior Joint Convener Ali Abbas, and Joint Conveners Miskatul Islam Chowdhury Bappa, Azizul Haque Chowdhury, Ashhab Uddin Chowdhury, Nurul Anwar Chowdhury, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury Nesar, and Saifuddin Salam Mithu.

The video has sparked debate over political rhetoric targeting the civil administration, with many netizens and political observers calling for clarification or further inquiry.
