Mercedes Maybach GLS600: Definitive Luxury
From the moment you lay eyes upon this land yacht of an SUV, you are greeted with flashy chrome all around the car

Mercedes-Maybach has been, well, an icon when it comes to ultra-luxury automobiles. With the likes of Bentley or Rolls-Royce, the Maybach plays a vital role in pop culture, with it being mentioned constantly in rap music, movies, and just having a presence on screens in general as a status symbol. For this feature, we take a look at a Mercedes Maybach GLS600, which is nothing short of impressive. Keep reading to find out more.
Now, if you are in the market to buy an ultra luxury land yacht on wheels, chances are you might be bothered to read an article on what to expect; "It has a Maybach badge, it is already good," you might think, and you are not entirely wrong.
From the moment you lay eyes upon this land yacht of an SUV, you are greeted with flashy chrome all around the car. Overarching chrome drowns the car from every side you look at– from the massive grille, to the overly sized vents sitting on the bumper on the front– it is 'bling city'. Some say one might need sunglasses to even lay eyes upon the car at midday, but we can assure you might need a welding helmet!

The car overall has a curvaceous nature, with seamless blends across every panel of the car. It sits right in a German ethos of making consistent design, of either being overly angular or following a rather curvy approach. Draping the fenders, sit 22'' chrome wheels which come with low-profile tires and contribute to the flashy nature of the exterior. LEDs on both front and rear fascia optics, and the exhaust outlets are fake; surprises, none.
The party starts once you get inside the Maybach. Nappa leather and smooth mahogany are standard across all trims, and they did not hold back on the quality of interaction points where you will be sitting. The leather is feathery soft with even softer bolsters for side support, cushioned headrest for head support, and massaging options for added comfort to your journey.
There's a wooden knob in the middle of the center console embossed with the Maybach logo, which you might think is used to control the infotainment, but it's just there for resting your hand; yes, the attention to detail is there in every single corner of the interior.

The infotainment, though, is your regular MBUX, which you can find in every other Mercedes out there, just with a few Maybach logos thrown around to make it a bit more special, but nothing wrong with it. Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto are standard across the board. Overall, it is responsive and well laid out. The infotainment also happens to have controls to the 27-speaker over-the-top Burmeister sound system, which is just okay, with boosted bass and high ends, just a classic V shape, nothing over the top.
The rear cabin of the Maybach is superb. You will find two captain chairs with leg support, where you can completely lie down and perhaps fall asleep on the complimentary Maybach pillows. There are two screens for each passenger for rear infotainment with a tablet in the middle to control the climate control and the volume of the speakers. And behold: a fridge between the seats for chilling the bottle of 1942 Don Julio to enjoy.

Driving the Maybach can be defined with one word only: "Refined". Its smooth, floaty air suspension, paired with a 4000 cc twin turbo V8 hybrid, ensures that whatever is the case may be, you will coast away with minimal vibrations. Bumps are non-existent in this car, and the throttle response is silky smooth.
The steering response is equally effortless, while once you put it in sport mode, it tightens up a tad. Yet, its main priority is to make you feel like a king in your silky, gentle ride, no matter the circumstances. Even though it's a V8, pressing the throttle the whole way does not contribute to sound, as the interior is severely dampened. However, there will still be some sense of speed present in it, so motion sickness will not be an issue if that's a concern.

Whether you are a celebrity or a high-profile businessperson, the Mercedes Maybach GLS600 does not fail to make you feel like a monarch. Despite its silky smooth ride and over-the-top interior quality, its hefty five crore price tag may not feel worth it. However, you can rest assured that people will definitely notice once you are out in the streets, as nothing is incognito about this car, and it never was when it came to a Maybach.
