One more dies of Covid, 25 new cases reported in a day
The deceased, 75-year-old Shafiul Alam from Jorarganj in Mirsarai upazila, had underlying health conditions, including kidney failure, according to health officials
Bangladesh reported one death and 25 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of fatalities from the virus this year to five.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the deceased was a woman, aged between 71 and 80. She was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka.
In the 24 hours from 8am Sunday to 8am Monday, 25 people have tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of Covid patients this year to 284.
With the latest figures, the death toll from Covid in Bangladesh has risen to 29,504, while the tally of confirmed cases rose to 20,51,833.
Meanwhile, Chattogram has reported its first Covid-19-related death since the recent resurgence of the virus.
The deceased is Shafiul Alam, 75, from Jorarganj in Mirsharai upazila.
The death was confirmed in a daily report issued Monday by the Chattogram District Civil Surgeon's Office, which also reported 10 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the district to 28.
Shafiul underwent treatment at a city hospital for complications following a hernia operation conducted in May. During his stay, he was diagnosed with kidney failure and was undergoing dialysis.
On 4 June, he tested Covid-19 positive, and was discharged from the hospital upon his family's consent. He breathed his last on 15 June.
"He had postoperative complications, and after developing kidney failure, he tested positive for Covid-19," said Civil Surgeon of Chattogram Dr Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
