According to police and locals, four masked youths armed with firearms entered Gausia Grocery, located at the head of Mekhal Road near Hathazari Bus Station, late that night. The shop, operated by Shahidul's brothers, Rashedul Islam and Aminul Islam, also served as a transaction point for bKash and Nagad services.

Around 2am, Aminul, who was monitoring the shop's CCTV footage remotely, spotted the robbers and raised an alarm. Hearing the commotion, Shahidul rushed to the scene, but the robbers shot him before fleeing with cash from two cashboxes and various goods.

Shahidul was initially admitted to a local hospital before being transferred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Chattogram for advanced treatment. Police and other law enforcement agencies later visited the scene.

The incident comes just days after another robbery on 19 April in Ward-6 of Dhalai union, where a house was looted late at night.
