Police arrest pickup driver who ran over two garments workers at Banani

The police have arrested the pickup truck driver who ran over two female garments workers in the Banani area of the capital yesterday (10 March).
The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Md Titon last night, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Deputy Commissioner (DC - Media and Public Relations) Mohammad Talebur Rahman.
Yesterday (10 March), a female garment worker was killed, and another one injured in a road accident in the capital's Banani at around 6am.
Later, RMG workers blocked all roads around Banani Chairman House U-turn yesterday in protest over a female colleague's death in a road accident.
Around 8:30am, traffic movement in Banani, Mohakhali, and Gulshan was nearly halted. Severe congestion also occurred on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway in Mohakhali and Banani during this time.
The workers held a coffin procession, and later, police requested them to vacate the road.
At around 1:30pm the road was freed, said Zia Rahman Ziko, additional deputy commissioner of Gulshan Traffic zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) also temporarily suspended the registration of the vehicle that was involved in the accident and summoned its owner.
