Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Massranga Television, and Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla TV, were killed on the early hours of 11 February 2012, in a rented house in West Rajabazar of the capital.
Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Massranga Television, and Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla TV, were killed on the early hours of 11 February 2012, in a rented house in West Rajabazar of the capital.

Plaintiff's lawyer in the sensational Sagar-Runi murder case Advocate Shishier Manir today said he would appeal to the court to transfer the investigation from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

Talking to the journalists, Adv Manir, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, said he will submit a petition to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court on 15 October to shift the investigation authority to PBI.

"The RAB has sought time for submitting the probe report in the case for 111 times and now, we want to keep confidence in the PBI to unearth the mystery of the murder and to identify the killers of the journalist couple Sagar and Runi," he said.

The reports of the DNA test of two persons can help the investigators to find out the actual killers of Sagar and Runi, he added.

He expressed the hope that the probe agency (PBI) would be able to find out if anybody or influential quarter had influenced the RAB to divert the investigation into any wrong direction or to hide anything.

Shishier Manir also said he will soon meet the investigators in this regard.

Nawsher Ali Roman, younger brother of Mehrun Runi and also the complainant of the case, earlier told the journalists that advocate Shishier Manir will move for the deceased's family from now on.

Sagar Sarwar, a news editor of private Machranga Television and Mehrun Runi, a reporter of ATN Bangla were murdered in their rented flat at West Rajabazar area on 11 February 2012 where their only son Mahir Sarwar Megh was present.

A case was registered with the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police at that time but it was shifted to the Detective Branch (DB) of police within three days. The case was finally taken to the RAB on 18 April in that year.

After a day of the killing, the then Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandkar told the journalists that significant progress has been made in the investigation process of the case.

After two days, the then Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun had said that the mystery of the killing would be brought to light and the killers to be arrested soon.

Various journalists and human rights bodies have been demanding the arrest of the killers of Sagar-Runi and to find out the mystery of the murder during the last 12 years.
