Nagad official robbed in Jashore: 7 arrested, Tk32 lakh recovered
Initially, Nagad officials mentioned Tk55 lakh was looted, but this figure is not correct, ASP Siddique says

The Jashore Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested seven individuals and recovered Tk32.05 lakh in connection with the armed robbery of Tk35 lakh from a Nagad distributor after attacking his car in the district's Monirampur upazila yesterday (17 June).
"Initial investigations have confirmed that the distributor's car driver was involved in planning the heist and is among those arrested," Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Noor-e-Alam Siddique said at a press briefing at the Jashore police superintendent's office today (18 June).
The arrestees are Yusuf Ali Saju, the driver of the Nagad distributor, from Jashore town and Roni Gazi, Sujon Islam, Imdadul Gazi, Nasim Gazi, Sagar Hossain, Sohel Rana from Jhikargacha upazila.
The ASP Siddique said the arrested individuals have confessed their involvement during preliminary interrogation. "Legal proceedings are underway to present them in court."
At the press briefing, he addressed discrepancies in the reported amount of the robbery. "Initially, Nagad officials mentioned Tk55 lakh was looted, but this figure is not correct. Verification of the actual stolen amount is still ongoing," the officer stated.
Yesterday, Nagad's Monirampur office supervisor Abu Sayeed said that the amount stolen was Tk55 lakh, based on information from senior officials.
According to police, yesterday around 10am, a car transporting the Nagad distributor, Robiul Islam, was intercepted in Monirampur's Jamtala area on the Rajarhat-Chuknagar highway. Two motorcycles carrying armed men blocked the vehicle.
The attackers shattered the car's windows and, brandishing machetes, threatened Robiul before looting Tk35 lakh in cash.
Victim Robiul Islam immediately called national emergency service 999.
"Law enforcers recovered Tk16.55 lakh from the house of Imdadul Gazi and another Tk15.50 lakh from Sujon Islam's residence. In total, Tk32.05 lakh was recovered. Police also seized two machetes and the bag used to carry the looted money," ASP Siddique said.
He added that one of the key leads was a motorcycle used in the robbery, which was traced to Sagar Hossain. "His arrest and confession led to the identification and capture of the rest of the group."
